BodyTalk Matrix Sessions for the Family

BodyTalk Matrix Sessions is a collection of dedicated, stand-alone sessions for which clients may make appointments. These powerful sessions are an extension of regular BodyTalk sessions, and they specifically focus on the energy dynamics within a group of people such as a family, a team, a business or an organisation. Sessions take around 45 minutes to complete.

BodyTalk Matrix Sessions for the Family address the energy dynamics between family members. Sessions are done from the perspective of the client and take into account the family the client was born into, the ancestral families of the client’s parents, and the current nuclear family the client may have formed.

In modern times, we find many family structures, including nuclear families, stepfamilies, extended families, grandparent families, single-parent families, same-sex families, childless families, and families with adopted children.

The Group Matrix | Sessions take inventory of all family members. The most obvious being the parents, grandparents, siblings, relatives and significant others. Also included are those who have passed away, were banned, disowned, killed, missing, or not talked with or about. And, children who have been given up for adoption, miscarried, aborted, institutionalised, or those who have died. The role of pets and plants, alive or dead (such as a tree planted at the time of a child’s birth that is now cut down) can also be significant.

Session FocusThe sessions are not about problem-solving through talk therapy. The focus is on establishing the correct energetic configuration within the hierarchy of the family — which begins by identifying the two people best equipped to hold the energy of the maternal and paternal figureheads of the family. BodyTalk refers to them as the maternal and paternal matrix holders of the family.

The session then shifts focus to address the quality of the relationships between family members. It may be necessary to repair a weak bond between two family members or form new bonds between a new person joining the family and each of the family members. Conversely, when a person is no longer part of the family, the emotional bond between that individual and the family members may need to be severed.

Maternal and paternal matrices symbolise certain concepts, very much aligned to the feminine aspects of the right-cortex of the brain, and the masculine aspects of the left-cortex of the brain. These two matrices represent the qualities that traditionally attribute to maternal and paternal figureheads and the feminine and masculine energies they embody. The maternal and paternal energies are activated when a person in the family needs to draw on the concepts those energies symbolise.

As a simple example, a family member (either male or female) could be needing the feminine energy’s ability to create a nurturing environment, or the masculine energy’s ability to be goal-oriented. At that moment, the corresponding right brain (feminine) and left brain (masculine) facilities will activate for the person to draw on what is necessary.

The maternal and paternal matrix holders have to hold specific energies for the family to function well. The session will reveal the two people best suited to be the matrix holders: A symbolic father figure and a mother figure. Most times, at least one or both people are already in place.

There is a lot of confusion in today’s modern society as to who should hold these matrices. Even in the recent past where extended families lived under the same roof, it was often the eldest male and female: the grandfather and the grandmother, who held the paternal and maternal matrices, respectively. For example, that relieved the mother of holding this energetic responsibility and enabled her to spend her younger married life focused on other things such as a job. Eventually, when the time is right, the mother will take over the responsibilities of the maternal matrix.

In modern families where there is no mother or father present, a mother or father figure, preferably from the extended family, or a role model such as a teacher or a coach, may hold this matrix. Even in same-sex families, single-parent families, and families with reversed roles, it is necessary to have two people holding the maternal and paternal matrices.

Most often, no matter what the family configuration is, the wrong person is found to be holding the maternal or paternal matrix for the entire family. This energetic burden not only puts undue stress on that person, but their stress affects the whole family at many levels.

It is important to respect the matrix holders. And, it is not healthy to denounce family ancestry. If disrespected, challenged, or the two matrices are not strongly held, then the effects will ripple through the whole family. This leads to illnesses in the members who constitute the family. Further, these illnesses can be inherited by succeeding generations until the energy dynamics are restored.

BodyTalk Matrix Sessions look at the bonds between family members that need repairing, forming, or severing.

Since all sessions are conducted from the viewpoint of the client, repairing a bond between two family members is done so that the client can function better in their family environment, experience less stress, and be healthier.

A new individual may need to be linked into the family to help the family members to accept them. It could be the need to form a bond between a new partner coming into the family and the rest of the family members. A new baby that is on its way may also need new bonds formed with the rest of the family.

Sometimes, a need can arise to sever the family’s emotional bond with someone who is no longer part of the family. It could be the need to sever the bond with a former partner, or the bond with a family member or family pet that died long ago, to allow the rest of the family to move on.

Session Format BodyTalk Matrix Sessions are similar to regular BodyTalk Sessions. The client will recline and relax on the treatment table, and the practitioner will use neuromuscular biofeedback to gather all the necessary information for the session. As with all procedures in BodyTalk, the session is guided entirely by the Innate Wisdom of the client’s body.

Clients appreciate that even during specialised sessions such as BodyTalk Matrix Sessions, the full suite of The BodyTalk® System’s techniques is available for use by the practitioner at all times when necessary.

For example, during a Family Matrix Session, it may become necessary to briefly integrate techniques from standard BodyTalk Sessions to address personal health imbalances that are directly affecting the client’s role and involvement within their family. Afterwards, the focus of the session will return to balancing the family group.

Dress comfortably. Loose-fitting clothing will allow you to relax comfortably on the treatment table. Since BodyTalk techniques involve lightly tapping over your chest (sternum) and abdomen, please avoid wearing large necklaces or clothing with stiff zips or large buttons and embellishments that sit over the midline of your chest. These items can rattle or feel uncomfortable when tapped on and interfere with your total relaxation and the focus of your practitioner.

The BodyTalk® System does not prescribe a set number of sessions for an individual. At the end of the session, your body will be consulted and asked when, ideally, the next session should be. It is entirely up to you if and when you would like another session. It’s common for clients to revisit once every 2 to 3 months to address new issues or for general maintenance.

In short, no.

Every family has elements that are similar to the way the human body works. There are the elders who form the think tank that is the brain, the family members who represent the hands that do the work that is involved in raising the family, and the family members who undertake tasks that represent the breathing, nourishment, safety, and the cleaning and elimination process of the body. When looked at closely, this is a timeless formula seen throughout our world.

Therefore, the same BodyTalk techniques and principles that apply to the body can superimpose into Matrix Sessions where we liken the functioning of the family to the functioning of a human body. In other words, the BodyTalk techniques that are used to balance the health of the human body often come up to be used for the client during BodyTalk Matrix Sessions. The benefits from those techniques will extend to both the client and the family they represent.

Knowing this, a technique that feels like a massage could come up during the session. For example, it could be a short technique from the Veltheim Method for Lymphatic Drainage (VMLD). There are some BodyTalk techniques where the practitioner will glide or move their hands over the exposed parts of the skin, for example, the sides of your neck, which feels like a light massage. It must be stressed that none of these techniques constitutes massage. You will remain fully clothed at all times.

More information on what to expect during regular BodyTalk Sessions and VMLD Sessions is available on several pages of this website.

Consent required

In wholeheartedness to help, many people book BodyTalk sessions for loved ones without their permission. BodyTalk Practitioners do not conduct sessions on people who are unaware of them being performed.

BodyTalk sessions aim to bring every individual to a place of balance in their life. This balance is unique and individual to them. Not everyone feels that their life is out of balance or that they need repairing. From their unique perspective, they may be coping, or they may not want to make any drastic changes in their life right now.

Talking someone into receiving any form of therapy may prove to be challenging for you, and unpleasant for them. Instead, allow the person to observe the positive changes in your own life from BodyTalk and other similar therapies. That may be the inspiration they need to make an empowered decision in the future.
